Disko Casse showcase @ Decibel Festival featured artist: BRODINSKI

Photobucket

One question I kept asking myself as I listened to Brodinski’s cosmically funky tracks and transcendental DJ mixes: is he really from this world?!

In just two short years, Brodinski has risen to explosive heights so quickly and emphatically. The high quality of his productions and the intensity of his DJ sets have rocked audiences and won universal respect among peers and DJs around the world.

Shameless is very proud to help bring Brodinski to Seattle this Saturday as headliner of our Disko Casse showcase at Chop Suey, as part of the 2009 Decibel Festival in Seattle.

While primarily affiliated with the mighty Boyz Noize and Turbo Recordings, Brodinski has released tracks on other venerable labels such as Fool’s Gold, Kitsune, and Ed Banger since 2007. His debut track Bad Runner was a sensation on many respected music blogs in late 2007, which began the proverbial ball rolling of support from world-renowned DJs and artists such as Soulwax, Switch, and Erol Alkan. Brodinski has also remixed tracks from Bonde de Role, Klaxons, and Adam Sky.

Brodinski’s original productions lean forward to the future without sacrificing visceral, sensual rhythm patterns familiar to all. This approach is best demonstrated in his collaboration with Noob on the recently released track on Turbo Recordings: “Peanuts Club”. Here, the track begins with a driving, bass drum-heavy tribal beat generously drenched in dark yet sexy techno influences. Syncopated basslines, bells, exhaust leaks, and otherworldly industrial loops create an irresistible environment where momentum naturally ebbs and flows – and always satisfies.

He also demonstrates a flair for dramatic tension on last year’s epic track “Oblivion,” which out of the gate thumps you over with in-your-face snares and kick drums – and eerie, extraterrestrial sounds from every direction. Wear headphones and turn up the bass during a listen of “Oblivion” and by the end of the track, you’ll be completely (and happily) convinced that you’ve had some kind of close encounter.

Both tracks are available for high-quality purchase via Beatport - get them immediately.

Brodinski’s DJ skills are equally impressive, as his track selections in the mix reflect the balance he achieves in his production between earthly rhythmic delights and what the future might have in store.

2. Stimming - Short Story
3. Unknown - Se Saber (johnny D Rmx)

6. Ryan Crosson - Confiteria Del Molino
7. Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner - Tromp It
8. Ilario Alicante - Living Near Africa
9. Roman IV - As Time Goes Bye Bye
10. Mokkasin - Helazerhead (Basti Grub Rmx)

The dude’s got tons o’ energy, too! Here are a couple examples:

Here’s a dizzying glimpse into a Brodinski set in Los Angeles, where everyone’s clearly losing their minds:

Needless to say, expect more of the same at Disko Casse this Saturday at Chop Suey!

The 4th Annual Symbiosis Gathering - this week!

Just when you thought that the outdoor music festival season ended once you left the playa, here comes another one: the Fourth Annual Symbiosis Gathering in the Yosemite National Park area, September 17-21 (this week!).

Symbiosis Gathering is located at Camp Mather in Yosemite, California (180 miles east of San Francisco, about a 3 hour drive). Normally a summer camp for over 1200 students, it houses 82 cabins wired with electricity next to a gorgeous lake shaped like a yin yang symbol.

The popularity of Symbiosis Gathering has grown in leaps and bounds in just four short years. It drew around 800 in its first year then attracted over 3000 in its third, taking a hiatus last year to better plan and adjust to its rapid growth.

While major festivals such as Burning Man transforms a vast, open space into a temporary city of revelers, Symbiosis Gathering places considerable emphasis on sustainable living and environmental preservation. You can learn how to make a solar oven out of recycled materials, learn about and tour the surrounding Yosemite Valley and Sierra Woodlands and its rich array of animal and plant life, and create art with natural materials.

You can also rejuvenate from the revelry within the Wellness Oasis, where daily yoga and tai chi classes, acupuncture, massage, and other bodywork activities are available.

The Garden of Eatin’ provides a mecca of food vendors that use organic and sustainable ingredients, all locally produced. There are so many food options to choose from as well: organic pizza, organic Asian food, full breakfast options, organic coffee, vegan tamales, smoothies, just to name a few.

There’s even a portion of the festival dedicated to kids: the MagiKidz Village at Symbiosis Gathering. Here, kids can participate in dance workshops, circus games, face painting, and much more.

Then there’s the musical lineup. Headliners include Les Claypool, psych-rock pioneers Os Mutantes, Yard Dogs Road Show, Amon Tobin, Bassnectar, and Coco Rosie. The rest of the lineup is also stellar and includes the likes of Caspa, Claude Von Stroke, Djuma Soundsystem, Flying Lotus, Glitch Mob, Alland Byallo, and Heavyweight Dub Champion, among many, many other DJs and artists.

So if you’re considering making the trek, act fast – tickets are expected to sell out!

A bit of a tease...

Summer's not quite over but don't hold it against us that we're already thinking of October, costume parties, and Halloween. So in that vein, just wanted to post a rad animated video for Kid 606's track, The Illness. Just a little taste of what's in store for October 16th.
