This year Decibel Festival brings you the Shameless Showcase starring Dan Bell & Deepchild Thursday September 23rd 2010 @ Chop Suey in Capital Hill. Last March, Deepchild came to Seattle for Menami's Music Madness.

Deepchild niced up the party just right.

Deepchild will be returning for the Shameless Showcase at Decibel 7 this year on September 23rd. He will be joined by techno legend, Dan Bell. Who will be throwing down a DJ set. Also local DJ CTRL_ALT_DLT of Sweatbox will be setting the stage for the evening in the main room.

How KEXP Failed the Wighnomy Brothers

Recently, I volunteered for the Decibel Festival in Seattle. This was my first year as a volunteer and for me it was a bass blowing four day extravaganza that was literally mental. My responsibility was to pick up artists from the airport and get them to their hotel or whatever pit stops they needed. I shared so many amazing experiences with so many inspiring people it was almost too much to compute. From sharing cigarettes with N-Type to getting Tycho to sign a little airport sign for my roommate. There is just one story that stands out among the rest. That is how KEXP failed the Wighnomy Brothers… In all fairness I do enjoy KEXP from time to time. It's hit or miss mostly. Let me build up the story a tad.

After several trips to SeaTac, I was on my last run of the day to pick up Caspa and MC Rod Azlan. Now I'm not a big fan of dubstep. So I thought it was especially funny that I had to pick up most of the big dubstep artists. To be honest, I had never heard of either of them before this day. At SeaTac, I found them both in the baggage claim and before we even exchanged names Caspa needed a favor, "I need to hit up like a Walmart or Kmart for some cheap clothes." Really? Out of all the great clothing stores America has to offer you, you need Walmart? Is that what we're known for? I was like, "Listen man, we don't really have Walmarts' here in Seattle. I mean there's Target (same evil), but its pretty far away. SeaTac Mall is like right..." Cutting me off he says, "I'm not looking to spend a lot of cash. Target will work great if you don't mind…" I got the vibe I was just a "driver" to him. Rod on the other hand was a great fellow. We had a great conversation while waiting outside of Target about where drum and bass went. Rod then informs me that he is in need of the finer smoke. Being the gentlemen I am, I offered to help. It was that act of kindness that would later put me back in front of the hotel to meet the Wighnomy Brothers. Sometimes being a stoner has its perks.

After getting them to their hotel, I got a call from the boss saying they needed someone to pick up Holger Zilske aka Smash TV. How could I refuse, right? (I have to add that Holger was the most inspiring person I met during the Festival. Amazing musician and producer. It was an awesome detour). A second act of kindness that put me in front of the hotel to meet the Wighnomy Brothers. After getting Holger to the hotel, I raced to score that bag of fun for the MC.

Mission accomplished, the package was acquired and I even scored a parking spot right next to the hotel. After the back alley deal was made. I was walking back to my car when there in front of the hotel was Holger sitting with the Wighnomy Brothers. As I walked by I told Holger how nice it was to meet him. He then invited me to have a cigarette with him. Earlier in the day when I had dropped Holger at the hotel, I overheard the hotel clerk informing him of his sound check at 9:30pm. My acute attention to detail came in handy after I then noticed that it was close to 10:00pm. Both Holger and the Wighnomy Brothers had 9:30pm sound checks. I made a quick call to check on their driver's status and said, "I don't know where your ride is but I can get you guys to the venue." I pretty much had my car in front of the hotel before they could answer. It was unbelievable, the seriously huge vinyl crates of the Wighnomy Brothers were in my trunk. The bros themselves in my car. My only regret was that I had no music in my car, just the radio. So I flicked the dial to 90.3 and was bumping "Shake the Shack". They were into it.

The radio DJ came in and started listing off all the shows that were going down in the greater Seattle area for the night. I noticed right away that it was not Leon Berman but someone filling in for him. After 5 minutes or so the guest DJ finally gets to Neumos, where the Brothers were playing that night and proceeds to mention off the lineup for the night. "...Lowrez...Noah Pred...Rob Hood...Alex Under... and ah," then stops for a moment and says, "You're listening to 90.3 KEXP. Where the music matters..." Laughter ensues. I can only imagine what this guy would think if he knew the very DJ duo he failed to mention, practically headlining Decibel Festival, was tuning in. He probably would have thought, "Wow, I totally failed…"

Minutes later I delivered The Brothers to Neumos. There they killed the dance floor proper.

Disko Casse showcase @ Decibel Festival featured artist: BRODINSKI

One question I kept asking myself as I listened to Brodinski’s cosmically funky tracks and transcendental DJ mixes: is he really from this world?!

In just two short years, Brodinski has risen to explosive heights so quickly and emphatically. The high quality of his productions and the intensity of his DJ sets have rocked audiences and won universal respect among peers and DJs around the world.

Shameless is very proud to help bring Brodinski to Seattle this Saturday as headliner of our Disko Casse showcase at Chop Suey, as part of the 2009 Decibel Festival in Seattle.

While primarily affiliated with the mighty Boyz Noize and Turbo Recordings, Brodinski has released tracks on other venerable labels such as Fool’s Gold, Kitsune, and Ed Banger since 2007. His debut track Bad Runner was a sensation on many respected music blogs in late 2007, which began the proverbial ball rolling of support from world-renowned DJs and artists such as Soulwax, Switch, and Erol Alkan. Brodinski has also remixed tracks from Bonde de Role, Klaxons, and Adam Sky.

Brodinski’s original productions lean forward to the future without sacrificing visceral, sensual rhythm patterns familiar to all. This approach is best demonstrated in his collaboration with Noob on the recently released track on Turbo Recordings: “Peanuts Club”. Here, the track begins with a driving, bass drum-heavy tribal beat generously drenched in dark yet sexy techno influences. Syncopated basslines, bells, exhaust leaks, and otherworldly industrial loops create an irresistible environment where momentum naturally ebbs and flows – and always satisfies.

He also demonstrates a flair for dramatic tension on last year’s epic track “Oblivion,” which out of the gate thumps you over with in-your-face snares and kick drums – and eerie, extraterrestrial sounds from every direction. Our homies over at Innerflight and Decibel invited Shameless to take over the back lounge at Chop Suey this Saturday. They are bringing in D.I.M. (Boys Noize) to headline. The main room will also be supported by Detroit influenced Jerry Abstract and Anglo Satellite. In the back lounge, resident Shameless DJs along with Pressha (Emerald City, Produkt) are holding it down. Make sure you get there early, because both rooms will be popping all night!

Justin Martin is one of the few house DJs that successfully bridges the gap between being commercially successful and staying true to the underground. His sound has been described as both melodic and tough, with releases ranging from the dynamic "Cicada" on dirtybird to the slamming "Magnificent" remix for Iz and Diz on OM records. Justin first gained international acclaim for his single, "The Sad Piano," on Ben Watt's Buzzin' Fly label. The single made its way into many A-List DJ crates as well as receiving many accolades from critics. Over time, Justin developed a more edgy sound in his hometown of San Francisco. He helped develop the local dirtybird label with his good friend, Claude VonStroke, releasing several amazing singles and remixes.


Christian Martin's love affair with electronic music began in 1995, as an early attendee at Southern California's now legendary Moontribe full moon desert parties. After absorbing late 90's club life in New York, London, and Los Angeles, Christian settled in San Francisco in the spring of 2000. He started playing records in 2002 under the tutelage of his brother, Justin Martin, armed with a stack of Justin's old vinyl and used Technics 1200's from Sammy D. In 2003, inspired by the massive desert soundsystems of old, Christian founded the dirtybird soundsystem. Along with co-founders Justin Martin, Worthy, and Claude VonStroke, dirtybird's Sunday afternoon BBQ's have quickly become a Golden Gate Park institution.

In 1996, won over by unified dance floors and the Detroit sound, the 16 year old Frivolous engages in a long term love affair with the loop and takes his first weekly residency at a downtown Vancouver after hours. After two successfully directionless years in electronics and then design, and after dabbling with some white label releases, Daniel decides to put his pride aside and send out a demo. A CD of incomplete works were sent out as an experiment to 5 of the most technologically innovative 12" labels in Germany and received back were 3 requests to release the material. Today, after a long evolution in his sound, Daniel's recording alter-ego Frivolous captures a romantically influenced montage of the most cutting edge production techniques with an old soul mentality. Along side his extremely bizarre performances, is the incorporation of classic instruments, home-made inventions and vocals into an environment built on experiments with glitchy cut-up funk, musique actuelle, and found sound.

Introcut is a member of the Fourthcity Crew (Seattle) and has been playing records for over a decade. He spins many different styles of music from hip-hop, downtempo, glitch, electronic, brokenbeat, house, techno, and dub to electro, 80s, space funk, punk, metal jazz, etc, as well as being a self-proclaimed super nerdy record collector that is also known for scratching Technics. Introcut has held a resident DJ slot at the Lo-Fi Performance Gallery's Tuesday night, "Stop Biting" for the last 4 years and includes other Fourthcity members and talented locals. Introcut is also a resident DJ at Trashy Trash, a drunken monthly dance party at the Sunset Tavern. Introcut is one of the founding members of the Broken Disco parties and spends a lot of time hanging up concert posters for his local poster distribution company, PosterMidget. DJ Introcut is also featured scratching on the first track of the latest Truckasauras album, "Tea Parties, Guns, and Valor" and the Galactic Ionization Unit, which includes members of Foscil, BOB22 & Truckasauras. Find Introcut and you will find great music, good times, and happy, dancing people.

Claude Balzac is the crazy French alter-ego of Seattle based DJ/Producer Ben Meadow (aka Nominal I). Balzac's first performance was in April 2007 doing a live set at the Fourthcity crew's Laptop Battle: Teen Idol Survivor. Since then he has been setting dance floors ablaze all around the Northwest. Balzac's style is rooted in electro and electro house but he frequently incorporates music from a variety of genres into his sets. He will do what it takes to make the party hot. So as everyone in Seattle already knows, once a year we get treated to what's becoming one of the world's best electronic music festivals. This year will be the 5th annual and we here at Shameless are thrilled to be involved once again. For the 1st 4 years we've thrown the official Decibel Festival afterparties. This year we'll be passing along the afterparty productions to some other local crews and instead teaming up with Antarctic Records to present bRave New World at Chop Suey on Sept 27th. Broken Disco Celebrates a Birthday

That must be quite the comfortable rock you've been living under if you've somehow managed to remain ignorant of Broken Disco. In a short 12 months, the night has grown from an ambitious concept to a fixture in Seattle's nightlife, placing a consistent spotlight on local talent while hosting a diverse range of headliners.

The Voltron-esque club night combines the promotional efforts of Decibel, Sensory Effect, Shameless, and Fourthcity—transforming Chop Suey into a destination on second Fridays. Instead of the usual lineup nitpicking, Broken Disco has established itself as a trusted brand, inspiring attendance even with artists who aren't household names, quite the feat with Seattle's fickle audiences.

For Broken Disco's anniversary, the promoters have opted for an all-out party assault, guaranteeing both a sweaty ceiling and noise complaints from Chop Suey's pesky neighbors. They're going big, bringing in a slew of out of towners instead of the usual single headliner, representing a pretty wide swath of the all-inclusive Broken Disco sound. Topping the bill is Tittsworth, the D.C.-area DJ who drops a heavy dose of Baltimore club in his catch-all party-jam sets. Former Laptop Battle champion Starkey comes from Philly, roughed-up beats in tow. Portland's Copy will illustrate the unironic usage of keytar, while Kansas City duo Tactic will kick things off with a set heavy on their own bouncy remixes.

Official Decibel Festival Afterparties 2007

This was Shameless' 4th year of producing the Official Decibel Festival afterparties. For those that didn't know, Friday night's surprise guest was Guns & Bombs. Saturday's surprise was Speedy J. Those special guests along with Kadeejah Streets, Recess, Kid Hops, Levi Clark, Kristina Childs, MC Anton Bomb, FOC:EYE, Acid Circus, and Phadreus tore it up! Much love and thanks go out to Sean Horton and the entire Decibel crew, the Mercury and their staff for opening their venue for these parties and all of the Shameless Warriors particularly Menami, Luying, Lindsey, Adlib, Masil, Jedd, the Gnome, Will, Nice Master Joe, Ava, Sabrina, and the rest of you crazy f*cks!
